Anachronik 2016: What you need to know

Festival season is up and running and first one to bat is Anachronik. The young fest (4th edition) is technically centered around everything vintage and rock n’ roll, but we can’t help to feel like the brand has yet to be exploited to its full potential and its identity to be clearly defined. Still, these guys have managed to pull together quite a line-up and we’re pretty excited to experience it this year again. Here’s what to watch for:

Thursday, May 5th

 KANDLE + FIRE/WORKS + EDDIE PAUL | Katacombes @9pm
Kandle, our favorite BC native to adopt Montreal as her hometown will be hitting up the Katacombes (yes, it’s kind of funny) but except no less than her usual hypnotizing stage presence. Bonus, the pretty blond will be performing long-awaited fresh material so this is NOT to be missed. Double Bonus, that evening also involves super-folky Fire/Works and local rock/alternative/pop band Eddie Paul.

THE SEASONS + RENARD BLANC | Club Soda @8pm
The Seasons, the pop indie-folk band originating for Quebec city will be performing on the Club Soda stage with their 60’s vibe in full fledge. Alongside them, Renard Blanc, a post-rock progressive band that should keep you on your feet.

Friday, May 6th

THE GRUESOMES + BLOODSHOT BILL + LOOSE PISTON | Club Soda @8pm
Now, now. This is a big deal! Epithome of garage-punk in Montreal, The Gruesomes, renowned for their wild performance, should be up to par with expectations. And we’re quite literally shitting our pants about this show! Bloodshot Bill, crazy one-man-rockabilly-band will FOR SURE impress and Loose Pistons will warm-up everything real nice with their 60’s-garage cool. This one will make you sweat guys.

THE BRAINS + THE MATADORS + BRUTAL YOUTH | Katacombes @10:30pm
The Brains, who killed it at Heavy Montreal last summer, will most probably destroy with their rockabilly punk that’s just plain awesome. It’s dancy and hard at the same time and although you might not know what to do with your body, you’ll definitely enjoy it; there’s just no other option. The ”Horror-billy” of The Matadors and the raw punk of Brutal Youth should make it an evening to… uh… remember?

Sturday, May 7th

BLACK LIPS + LES MARINELLIS + THE HAZYTONES | Club Soda @8:30 pm
THE event of the fest. Such a good catch for the Anachronik crew and we cannot wait to squeeze ourselves, be uncomfortably close to everybody and loose all sense of personal space at Club Soda if it means we’ll get a glimpse of the Atlanta-natives. With a sound stuck somewhere between real punk and pop, the foursome has never felt any restraint and their success is only representative of their appeal. Les Marinellis and The Hazytones will be joining them.
