Système D Café and Bakery: A trip down memory lane

You know the type of story that starts with « the friend of an acquaintance of the brother-in-law»? Well, the cousin of my friend and her beau, Cynthia Deschenaux and Mathieu L’Écuyer, just opened a coffee shop in the heart of Old Montreal.

As a lover of all things caffeine and always on the hunt of cute spaces that allowed me to   Instagram,  work , Système D just came on fleek. A mixture of café-boulangerie suggestive of an early 20th-century Laurentians auberge, Système D offer artisanal breads made with ancient grains and organic flours, pastries, muffins, cookies and so on. They also have a lineup of sandwiches, a few salads, teas, milkshakes and hot chocolate.

The café gives a retro vibe with its chic-rustic ambiance. Co-founder Cynthia describes the place as a “nostalgic ambiance of a bygone era. With them, it “feels like a Sunday afternoon in the countryside”.

And my oh my, wouldn’t I mind a couple of Sunday’s afternoon a week!
