Emily Haines is back, solo and with a Fatal Gift

Metric‘s Emily Haines is set to release her third solo album, with The Soft Skeletons, and her first in almost a decade. Choir of the Mind is set to be released on September 15, 2017 through Last Gang Records/eOne and to give us a little taste of what’s to come, Haine’s release the album’s first single, Fatal Gift, along with a video.

The song starts of with that melancholic, almost lullaby like sound that instantly give off the signature Haines tone. But just when you start thinking that although pretty, this might just be more of the same, the song picks up, with a strong, prominent base line, catchy beat and repetitive vocals, setting you right into a daze. Which you don’t realize until the song ends.

If Haines takes her band to push the boundaries, she seems to be taking her solo career get back to it’s roots.  Because though there are some aspects of the song that are proper Soft Skeleton, it brings back a Grow Up and Blow Away feel.
